New Suzanis

Suzani is the extraordinarily beautiful and intricate embroidery tradition of Uzbekistan. Threads of silk or cotton are dyed vivid colors and stitched into the elaborate designs used to decorate bed covers, table cloths, and other household items. These suzanis from Uzbekistan are wonderful examples of this most beautiful of art forms. The natural dyes used are derived from natural sources such as walnuts, safron, black tea, and sumac, resulting in remarkably colorfast hues that impart a deeper meaning: blues from the indigo flower embody the sky, yellows and oranges distilled from onion skins, saffron, and pomegranates represent knowledge, reds from the madder root mean fire and sun, and the green from the usma plant represents spring and youth.
