Simple Decorating Changes with Suzanis and Ikat Textiles

The beauty of decorating with Suzani and Ikat textiles is that you can make amazing and dramatic decor changes very quickly and easily.  The photos below of a daybed in my den demonstrate how I quickly transformed the color scheme and look of the room simply by changing out the pillows, the Suzani throw, and the Ikat drapery panel.  (More to come on how to create your own DIY Ikat drapery panels out of the narrow Ikat fabric from Black Fig Designs.)

Now jazz up the room even more by adding in some Ikat pillows and narrow Ikat fabric as a simple window treatment panel...Rust suzani and ikat pillows and fabric

Above:  It was incredibly easy to pick out the Ikat fabric and pillows to coordinate with the Suzani.   I used the artwork as my starting point and based the vintage Suzani choice on the colors that would coordinate with the artwork.  Then I matched the Ikat pillows and drapery fabric to that color scheme.

When mixing and matching patterns, it helps to view the images together when making the decisions.  I just copy and paste them into a document...

Above:  Changing out the pillows and Ikat window drapery panel changes the look.  In fact I have to admit that I was thrilled and amazed as I was shooting these photos the transformation this room would go through simply by adding the Ikat throw pillows and the Suzanis as a bedcovers and throws.

Above:  You can also quickly change out your color scheme by simply changing the artwork and a couple pillows. How fun is this blue and orange together?  By the way, I took the above photo of my old home, (the San Juan Islands, WA), adjusted it in Photoshop to look like a painting, and had it printed and mounted on canvas by www.Photowow.com.  A also made the bedframe myself, but that's a whole other story that I'll write some day and post it on my other blog:  www.DevineDecoratingResults.com .

Normally it can be difficult to affectively mix patterns and bold colors, but these textiles from Uzbekistan make it extremely easy to get a professionally designed looking interior at a very affordable price!
